By the hell on earth these poor creatures suffer today;
by the destruction on the verge of which they hover;
by the abundant mercy provided for them;
by the deliverance we have proved so possible;
by the agony of the cross under which I make my appeal,
I plead for a united,
desperate,
persistent effort to save the lost.
